YORK, PA -
Students attending the Great Green America Fest Education Day on Friday, May 2, will take home a tree sapling for planting, courtesy of Shipley Energy Company. Shipley Energy has purchased 5,000 maple shade tree saplings and will hand them to students as they board their school buses at the end of the day.
“Providing tree saplings to the students is one way of enhancing the environment,” said William Shipley III, CEO of Shipley Energy. “Shipley Energy is committed to being a good corporate steward of the environment. If every student plants the sapling, that’s 5,000 more trees available to clean the air, provide shade for individuals and buildings and help save energy and the environment.”
“The Great Green America Fest is a wonderful endeavor designed to give people ideas and encouragement about saving energy and protecting the environment. Shipley Energy is proud to sponsor this worthwhile event,” said Dorothy Koller, Shipley Energy marketing manager.
In addition to the tree saplings, Shipley Energy will provide each student with a list of helpful energy saving tips to take home and discuss with their parents. Suggestions include:
* don’t leave lights on in empty homes. Use timers for just a few lights and install energy-efficient Compact Fluorescent Lights where possible;
* turn down the home’s hot water heater thermostat to 120 degrees from the more typical 140 degrees. It saves energy and most people won’t notice a difference; and
* install low-flow faucets and showerheads to save energy and money, especially on hot water usage.
“Individuals and businesses can invest in the future of the environment by taking every measure possible to save energy,” Shipley said. “These tips are a small portion of the initiatives individuals can undertake to make our world a better place.” The energy tips list also includes coupons that parents can use to save on Shipley Energy products and services.
